Leading Austrian retailer Billa reported that it has expanded its store base in the past year, with 47 new, refurbished or technologically updated branches across Austria, creating more than 850 jobs.
The new store layout facilitates collaboration with local suppliers, creating a one-stop shop. Billa has also started to incorporate the latest POS technology in its stores, as well as developing a new marketing strategy.
"As a leading Austrian supermarket, we naturally focus on the customers' needs. Expanding our network of stores is an important strategy to achieve our goal of remaining the first and foremost retailer to supply households across Austria," said Josef Siess, board member at Billa.
Fellow Billa board member Robert Nagele added, "We are committing ourselves to providing added value. For that reason, we are working together with many local producers and businesses."
The retailer currently operates 1,056 stores in urban and rural areas across Austria. With around 19,000 employees, the company is one of Austria's largest employers.
