Delhaize Group has confirmed that all 66 Bottom Dollar Food Chain stores in the US will close by 15 January, with the expected loss of nearly 2000 jobs.
In November, ESM reported that Delhaize - Bottom Dollar's parent company — said it would sell 66 Bottom Dollar stores to Aldi.
The company has also announced that every employee at all the outlets of the Bottom Dollar Food franchise will be provided with severance pay or packages, while a few will also receive career transition services to help them find another job.
"We want to thank our associates, customers, and communities for their support over the past four years," said Gene Faller, Bottom Dollar vice president for retail operations.
It's unclear at the moment whether Aldi will choose to re-open any of the Bottom Dollar outlets under its banner.
"I would like to thank our Bottom Dollar Food associates for their hard work and dedication to their customers," Frans Muller, president and CEO of Delhaize Group said in November while announcing news of the closure.
