French retailer Carrefour has added four new members to its board, the company announced on Wednesday.
It said that this move continues its ‘renewal’ promised in 2017, which featured a commitment to having more female members, as well as younger and more 'digital' personalities.
The four new independent directors are Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, Aurore Domont, Stéphane Israël and Stéphane Courbit. Their backgrounds include the communication, digital marketing, audiovisual production, and aerospace engineering sectors.
They replace Diane Labruyère-Cuilleret, Georges Ralli and Bertrand de Montesquiou, whose mandates are due to expire at the 15 June annual general meeting, and Anne-Claire Taittinger, who announced she has decided to terminate her mandate.
"Commitment and contribution"
The board also is planning to recommend renewing the mandates of Patricia Lemoine, Mathilde Lemoine, Philippe Houzé, Nicolas Bazire and Alexandre Bompard, CEO of Carrefour, at the annual general meeting.
Of the outgoing members, Bompard said, “I would like to highlight their commitment and contribution to Carrefour's Board of Directors throughout their terms."
He said of the incoming directors, "Their experience and diverse profiles, and notably digital and entrepreneurial skills, will be valuable assets to support the implementation of the Group's transformation plan, Carrefour 2022."
Carrefour revealed its first-quarter results Thursday, showing a slow sales growth in the first quarter amid continued weakness in its core French market amid bad weather conditions, Easter strikes, and competition. First-quarter sales reached €20.776 billion.
