Retail giant Carrefour has presented one of its suppliers, Lugo fishery Puerto Celeiro, with the 'Grand Climate Challenge Award for Suppliers'.
As reported by EPR Retail News, the fishery, which has been a supplier to Carrefour Spain for 14 years, was awarded for selective hake fishing extraction method.
Carrefour Group created this award to highlight and commend the efforts that their suppliers have made in the face of climate change.
The award also represents the fishery's commitment to the sustainability of the marine ecosystem, having already helped reduce fish discards by 99 per cent.
Puerto Celeiro has also contributed on a social and economic front by breathing new life into the fishing market and by creating more jobs for sailors.
Furthermore, Puerto Celerio has demonstrated a passionate commitment to the environment, and according to EPR Retail News, the Lugo fishery has made significant annual savings of more than 540,000 litres of fuel per fishing boat used.
