Carrefour Belgium has announced that customers holding a Carrefour Bonus Card will receive 500 bonus points.
The points can be redeemed as a €5 discount on purchases worth €50 or above between 20 April to 9 May.
CEO of Carrefour Belgium, François-Melchior de Polignac, commented, “We are well aware that in the current situation, consumers are forced to do large shopping to reduce the number of trips.
“With this action, we want to make a gesture of solidarity for our loyal customers, while avoiding encouraging storage behaviour that could be engendered by the usual promotions.
Promotions And Discounts
On 18 March, the National Security Council in Belgium banned all promotions and discounts in food stores to prevent customers from stockpiling.
As a result, the price of the average consumer basket increased.
On 30 March, the minister of the economy and consumers, Nathalie Muylle, announced that promotions in food stores would be authorised.
The Belgian Official Journal has not published any official text related to the minister's announcement to date, implying that promotions are still prohibited, Carrefour added.
