Carrefour Brazil Launches New ‘Social Gastronomy’ Project

Carrefour Brazil has launched a new project through its Carrefour Foundation platform, that it says will help the retailer develop ‘zero-waste’ recipes and production lines.

The new initiative is in conjunction with Gastromotiva, a NGO that uses social gastronomy to promote inclusion and sustainability, and will see the formation of the first Gastromotiva Innovation Laboratory, a space dedicated to the study and development of zero-waste recipes.

Carrefour will make an investment of around €320,000 in the project.

As well as financial support, the Carreour Foundation will also develop a product line for sale in its stores, which reflects the work undertaken by the laboratory, which is located in Rio de Janeiro.

Project Support

Carrefour also said that it is renewing its support for two other projects, which it commenced in 2015, focusing on youth and adult education and training and social gastronomy.

Its renewal of support for and development of the new project with Gastromotiva is in line with Carrefour's transformation plan, 'Carrefour 2022,' which was announced in January.

Among the main objectives of the new global strategy is becoming a leader in ‘food transition’, through which the company wants to enable its customers to consume better, higher quality, safe and socio-environmentally responsible food.
