Carrefour has completed the purchase of one of France's largest web-only retail sites, Rue du Commerce.
The French supermarket chain announced the takeover of the site in August, and this week confirmed the acquisition of 100% of the share capital from Altarea Cogedim. The deal received the green light from the European Commission in November.
"This acquisition is another step in the roll-out of Carrefour's omni-channel strategy in France, for the benefit of its clients both in stores and on-line," the company said in a statement.
Electronics and home appliances e-retailer Rue du Commerce boasts an average of nearly five million unique visitors per month, making it one of the largest internet commerce sites in the country.
"Rue du Commerce is a key player in non-food e-commerce, leveraging its strong brand, broad client base, significant marketplace activity and a skillset that is complementary to Carrefour's expertise," Carrefour added.
