Carrefour has announced that it completed the rebranding process of Billa's stores in Romania, which began on 1 March.
Last week, the final four Billa stores, in Timisoara and Mangalia and two in Bucharest, were transformed into Carrefour Markets.
"Along with the new Billa remodelled stores, we opened two new supermarkets in Cluj and Stefanestii de Arges, reaching 218 supermarkets in Romania," said Jean Baptiste Dernoncourt, CEO of Carrefour Romania.
Expansion Plans
The French retailer announced in December 2015 that it had signed an agreement with the Rewe Group to acquire Billa Romania, with a network of 86 supermarkets nationwide and about 3,000 employees.
In 2016, Carrefour's sales in Romania increased by more than a fifth compared to 2015, surpassing €1.5 billion euro for the first time.
Carrefour operates 303 stores in Romania, including 32 Carrefour hypermarkets, 218 supermarkets (203 Market and 15 Express Orange stores), 42 Express neighbourhood stores, 10 Contact neighbourhood stores and an online service.
