Carrefour has confirmed that Fnac Darty chief executive Alexandre Bompard is to succeed Georges Plassat as chairman and CEO of Carrefour, commencing July 18, 2017.
Plassat had initially been expected to step down from his role in May 2018, however today's announcement means that this has been brought forward by around ten months.
Company Transformation
In a statement, the Carrefour board of directors said that it 'pays tribute to the action of Mr. Georges Plassat, who transformed the company during his tenure. Under his leadership the company got back its position as a leading global retailer as well as robust basics for further growth.'
The directors added that 'in light of his career, his experience and his success in his previous positions', Alexandre Bompard has 'all the skills' to succeed Plassat, and 'continue to develop and transform Carrefour in any and all respects'.
Born in Saint Etienne, Bompard, 44, has been chairman and CEO of Fnac since 2011.
His appointment brings to an end an eight-month search for a new chief executive at Carrefour.
