Carrefour Entry Into Kenya Imminent

French retail giant Carrefour has begun the search for managers to run two stores in Kenya, signalling its intent to start operations there.

The sites for the new stores, in high-end shopping malls Two Rivers and The Hub Karen, are set to be completed by September. The Two Rivers site is a 100,000-square-foot store, while The Hub Karen is 6,000 square feet.

Franck Moreau will be the new country manager for Kenya, and the search is under way for a finance and account manger. Moreau, a French native, was formerly vice-president in charge of development for the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Enhanced infrastructural development in Kenya has made it one of the faster-emerging economies in Africa in recent years, and has become an attractive country for retailers.
