Carrefour France has confirmed it is to distribute two million protective face masks to employees across its stores and supply chain as part of the retailer's efforts to ensure the safety of its personnel.
The group received the shipment of masks on Sunday, and has commenced distribution across its network, it said in a statement.
The retailer made the move following the news that several employees at its hypermarket in Vitrolles, near Marseilles, walked out over health concerns relating to coronavirus.
New Measures
Carrefour implemented a number of protective measures in recent weeks to maintain health and safety standards, it said, including widespread distribution of protective visors, plexiglass barriers at checkouts and antibacterial gels and gloves.
It has also reducing the opening times of its Carrefour hypermarkets and supermarkets, 'in order to relieve the teams that have been on the front line since the start of the crisis', it said.
These stores will now close at the earlier time of 7pm, and will be closed on selected Sundays, including Sunday April 5th.
