Carrefour Italia has introduced a dedicated corner for organic products in its hypermarket in Carugate, Milan, as part of a pilot project that could be rolled out in other stores.
The ‘Bio’ corner, spread across an area of 115 square metres, houses more than 1,500 organic products of certified origin, ranging from fresh products to canned goods, according to a report in Gdoweek.
It also offers eco-friendly personal care products in sustainable packaging as well as books dedicated to the environment and textile made from cotton.
The initiative is part of the retailer’s food transition strategy to promote a healthier and more sustainable diet, the report said.
Carrefour aims to become a benchmark for specialised organic and sustainable products and is planning to redefine its organic product offer in 2022, according to commercial director Roberto Simonetto.
