Milan-based retailer Carrefour Italia has received the “Good Energy Award 2015” from Bernoni Grant Thornton
The award is the first of its kind in Italy dedicated to virtuous businesses that have had the courage to invest in the areas of renewable energy and energy savings. Among more than 50 companies, the jury identified three finalists for each of the three categories: Industry, Public Administration and Tertiary.
Carrefour Italia Group has set itself the aim, by 2020, to reduce its energy consumption per m2 by 30% compared to 2005 and to reduce 40% CO2 emissions by 40% compared to 2009.
The retailer recently installed innovative technologies in the Carrefour Market store at Piazza Siena in Milan, achieving not only energy efficiency but also sustainability in terms of reducing CO2.
Two types of technologies were used: non-chemical gas for the refrigerated section, which has an environmental impact some 3,800 times lower than that of the chemical gas used in traditional systems, and full LED lighting (instead of traditional fluorescence), ensuring a 70% reduction of power consumption.
