Retail giant Carrefour has named Gérard Lavinay its new executive director for Italy. François Melchior de Polignac will replace Lavinay as executive director for merchandise, supply, and formats, and will also be a member of the group executive committee.
Lavinay will report to CEO Alexandre Bompard, and will remain a member of the group executive committee.
Both appointments are effective 1 October 2018, the group announced.
Background
Lavinay started his career in 1980 with French hypermarket chain Euromarché. He managed various operational positions as the head of supply chain, director of fresh products, and director of supermarkets.
Between 2013 to 2017, he oversaw Carrefour's business in northern Europe in Belgium, Poland, and Romania. In 2017, he was appointed the executive director for merchandise, supply, and formats.
In 2017 Melchior de Polignac was appointed Carrefour’s executive director for transformation, merchandise, and partnerships.
He joined Carrefour's mergers and acquisitions department in 2000, before taking on the role of the director of a hypermarket.
He then took on the role of the group’s director of supermarkets in Poland. He was also involved in a transformation project in Carrefour before taking over as executive director for Romania.
Melchior de Polignac started his career at L’Oréal as a financial controller before moving on to the Boston Consulting Group, where he spent three years.
