Carrefour has opened its 221st French hypermarket at Beauvais, at the Sud shopping centre.
The new 6000 sq. m outlet, located at the site of a former Intermarché hypermarket, is 'geared towards meeting consumers’ needs right across the Beauvais urban area, with a tailor-made offering of high-quality products and services at competitive prices', according to Carrefour.
Particular emphasis will be placed on fresh produce, all showcased in a friendly environment. There is a generous fruit and vegetable "market" area, a bakery, a pastry product area, a fishmonger, a selection of meat and traditional cured meat products and a range of delicatessen products,
Elsewhere in the shop, local producers are 'given pride of place', according to Carrefour, with Montois farm fromages blancs and fromages frais, as well as cooked meat speciality brand Richard(beauvaisis andouillette and picard paté with poultry liver).
The store also boasts a number of other new features, including a 300-strong selection of snacks and a "products of the world” area. The store also features an "organic” selection (with 800 items in a dedicated area) and a “cellar" area with a wide selection of wines.
'The Beauvais Carrefour hypermarket also has a "Gourmet" area with 600 gourmet grocery products – ensuring that every possible consumer need is catered for', Carrefour said.

The new store will employ some 150 members of staff on permanent contracts.
In addition to these permanent contracts, the store has offered fixed-term and temporary contracts - as well as student jobs - to people living in and around Beauvais in collaboration with local employment bodies, such as the Pôle Emploi and various local taskforces.
