Carrefour has opened its first hypermarket in the Ivory Coast within the framework of its partnership with leading African retail group CFAO.
Located in PlaYce Marcory shopping centre in Abidjan, the 3,200-square-metre hypermarket employs 510 people, who have received a combined 16,000 hours of training from Carrefour since April 2015.
The store offers more than 30,000 items and features a mix of Carrefour own-brand products, national brands and locally produced brands. It also has a number of traditional sections, such as a butcher, a fish counter and a bakery.
The interior of the store has been designed to have a minimal environmental footprint through the use of LED lighting and closed, ultra-fresh refrigeration units.
Carrefour has described the opening as the first step in a major development plan with CFAO and other partner brands that will be deployed in eight African countries over the next few years.
