Carrefour has opened its first hypermarket in Kazakhstan with its franchise partner the Majid Al Futtaim Group, which runs 162 of its outlets globally.
The store, located in Almaty, occupies more than 8,000 square metres of floor space, and is in a shopping centre that is home to about 400 stores, and to 1,200 parking spaces.
Carrefour’s new hypermarket is equipped with a strong offering in sports and leisure products, homeware and apparel, as well as in foodstuffs. In total it offers about 30,000 items.
The store was fitted out with checkouts, shelving and high racks from Modern Expo.
The CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, Eric Legros, was quoted by the Khaleej Times as saying, "The opening of our first outlet in Kazakhstan marks a major milestone for Majid Al Futtaim as we mark another milestone in our regional growth.
"Kazakhstan is a significant long-term growth market for us, and the new Carrefour Grand Park marks the beginning of a significant KZT 5 billion [€13 million] investment programme that will deliver two additional projects in Almaty and Astana."
