According to a source close to Reuters, French retailer Carrefour will open a hypermarket in Algiers by the end of June 2015.
Carrefour already planned to expand to Algeria back in 2006 in collaboration with private holding company Arcofina, however after only opening one of 18 planned stores both parties agreed to give up their endeavour in 2009.
As reported last November, Carrefour appears to be ready for a second try.
According to Reuters, an underdeveloped retail sector and rising incomes throughout the African continent present retailers and consumer good companies with an opportunity to boost investments and counter weak growth in Europe.
