Carrefour Romania has announced that it is trialling a new self-service checkout at its Carrefour Baneasa hypermarket in Bucharest.
The store now features four self-service checkouts, which are manned by a supervisor, under the slogan 'casa ta', or 'your cash register'. If successful, the service could be rolled out to more stores in future.
New Ways To Pay
“Customers are invited to the Carrefour Baneasa hypermarket to discover this pilot project and try the new self-service cash register that allows clients to make purchases in two simple steps: scanning products at the new self-service cash register and paying for the scanned products by card or via the Carrefour Pay mobile app,” said Andreea Mihai, marketing director for the French chain’s Romanian arm.
Romania-Insider.com reports that Auchan has also introduced a self-checkout service in some of its stores in Romania. In Auchan, however, purchases are still scanned by a cashier, but customers can pay for their shopping themselves at machines located near the checkouts.
