Carrefour Spain opened 169 supermarkets in 2015, and the objective for 2016 is to surpass the figure.
As reported by revistainforetail.com, Ignacio Cobo, General Director of Carrefour Spain, said that the company expects to open "over 175 supermarkets" this year.
From this, at least 90 will be Express supermarkets, and 85 will be shops in Cepsa petrol stations.
The company currently runs 601 supermarkets in Spain; 113 Markets, 288 Express, 186 Express in petrol stations, and 14 Superco.
From this total, 454 shops are franchised.
"We've found a formula that is receiving an excellent response from consumers and that is outstanding thanks to its adaptability", said Cobo, who pointed out that in the convenience model, the group has the highest sales per square metres and that supermarkets sales and market share grew in double-digit figures.
