Carrefour To Open In Armenia

The first Carrefour outlet in Armenia will open its doors in March, according to a report in Armen Press (of the Armenian News agency).

The announcement was made by Jean-François Charpentier, the French ambassador to the nation. It follows an agreement reached in May, which was signed in the presence of François Hollande, the president of France, and Serzh Sargsyan, the president of Armenia.

The supermarket, to be located in Yerevan, will span 66,000 square metres.

Charpentier stated in a press conference (as was published in Armen Press), "As far as the variety of products is concerned, I must say that Carrefour is inclined to work with local producers in this or that country."

He added, speaking of the kinds of products that will be available, "They're not poorly or partially cultivated products, but fabricated products like wine or certain types of melted cheese. Since they are special agricultural products, they are obviously out of competition, and the consumers are special consumers. This is Carrefour's approach."
