Carrefour has launched a new Carrefour Express store in Calle Hermosilla, Madrid.
Launching the new store, Jesús Bermejo, Proximity Director at Carrefour Spain, described it as a "new concept of gourmet supermarket".
As reported by revistainforetail.com, the company currently operates three Carrefour Express outlets under this 'gourmet' model, located in wealthy areas of Madrid (Ortega y Gaset, and Gravina).
"Despite being in areas frequented by high-income customers, products have the same price as in any other of our shops", said Bermejo.
The new shop in Hermosilla occupies a surface area of 4,800 square metres and boasts approximately 5,500 products. It also has a wine section with over 250 options, a butcher and charcuterie area, a fruit and veg display with a bio section, and a wide selection of imported products and gourmet items.
The company anticipates around 20 per cent of future openings to fit this model of gourmet convenience and also aims to transform existing shops that fit certain criteria.
