Belgium-based retailer Louis Delhaize is exiting the Hungarian market and will sell 110 of its 200 Match and Profi stores to domestic grocery retailers CBA and Coop.
Coop has acquired 62 Profi and Match stores, which will boost the group's net retail space by 27,000 square meters. Meanwhile, CBA is to convert 48 Match stores to its high-end CBA Príma banner, according to the Hungarian press.
The acquisition of the Match stores by CBA is part of its strategy to regain a leading position in the Hungarian market. At the retailer's 20th anniversary press conference earlier this year, chairman László Baldauf said the group aims to be the biggest player in the domestic market once again, increasing its selling space by acquiring units of retailers pulling out of Hungary and upgrading its own stores.
