Following extensive trials, convenience retailer Central England Co-Operative has confirmed that all future store developments will use the very low Global Warming Potential (GWP) A2L Opteon™ XL20 (R-454C) Refrigerant from Chemours.
The new solution, which can be implemented at a cost similar to new refrigeration equipment, has shown an energy saving of 11% versus the current R448A solution during the trial phase.
This technology, when implemented in small supermarkets, has the best 10-year life cycle emissions compared to other very low GWP solutions such as CO₂ and hydrocarbons.
Kevin Collins, head of facilities and technical services at Central England Co-Operative, commented, "As a community retailer, we have been looking for a solution which is both compliant with regulation and forms a pillar of our carbon reduction plan to achieve net-zero.
"We have found that R-454C meets all of our criteria and we will now be rolling this out across all our future convenience stores in the UK.”
