Italian regional grocery retailer Commercianti Indipendenti Associati (CIA) has reported 2016 turnover of €1.45 billion, up 3.5% year-on-year.
Last year, the company invested €41 million in consolidation activities and network development, reports local news portal Chiamicitta.
CIA, one of the seven cooperatives that make up the Conad national consortium Conad, has 165 member companies and 6,300 employees.
At the end of December 2016, CIA-Conad had 229 stores divided across four channels: hypermarkets (3), superstores (32), Conad (63) and City (131). Most of the stores are located in the Emilia-Romagna region and in San Marino (142), followed by Marche (39), Veneto (26) and Friuli Venezia Giulia (22).
In the territories in which it operates, CIA-Conad has a 12.4% market share, according to Nielsen data.
The retailer plans to invest over €250 million in the period 2017-2019, including the opening of around 20 new stores and the total and partial refurbishing of existing stores. Two stores have already been opened since the start of the year – the Superstore Cava in Forli and the first Conad in Osimo near Ancona.
