IGD has confirmed that Asda’s Andy Clarke, who is scheduled to step down from the retailer in July, but will continue to work for Asda as an advisor for the remainder of 2016, will remain as president of the retail research and training body for the foreseeable future.
Clarke took on the role of IGD president in early 2015, having previously served as vice-president.
“Andy has done an amazing job since taking the reins in 2015,” said Joanne Denney-Finch, IGD chief executive.
“He has demonstrated his passion not only for IGD but for our entire industry, not least through his support for our Feeding Britain’s Future skills and employability programme. Andy has also been instrumental in encouraging IGD to implement our healthy eating programme. I look forward to continuing to work closely with him.”
Clarke began his career with Asda in 1992, returning to the group in 2005 having spent spells at Matalan and Iceland. He was appointed president and chief executive of the Walmart-owned retailer in 2010.
