UK retailer The Co-operative has announced the opening of two food stores in Leicester, following an investment of £1.2 million.
The first store, located in Whetstone, will be launched on 21 of September, followed by a second outlet on 5 October, following the refurbishment of the Gables Hotel site.
Both stores will support good causes in the local community, thanks to a scheme that allows members to receive a 5% reward on the purchase of own-branded products and services, with a further 1% benefitting local good causes.
The stores’ main focus is on fresh, healthy food, as well as wine and essentials. Each will also provide car parking and a Costa coffee dispenser for customers.
“Our ambition is to establish our stores as […] a real asset for the community”, said Co-op area manager Simon Taylor. “As a community retailer and a co-operative we give back to our communities, and our Members can make a difference every time they shop with us."
The Co-operative, which opened more than 100 stores in UK last year, is seeking to open a similar number this year.
