Conad Adriatico Plans Expansion In 2013

Conad Adriatico has reported its full-year results for 2012, with consolidated sales of €286 million. The co-operative's Puglia division reported a turnover of €241.2 million, with the Basilicata region delivering sales of €17.8 million and revenues of €27 million in Albania.

The Puglia network added 20 stores to its network during the year, including the acquisition of 8 Billa stores, bringing its total to 97. 31 new stores are planned for the region in 2013, with one store to open in Basilicata.

The Albanian segment, operated through subsidiary Conad Shqiperia, saw sales growth of 11.7 per cent to €27 million, opening 5 new stores during the year. It is expected that the group will add 11 new stores to its Albanian network during 2013.

The co-operative had a consolidated market share of 6.3 percent at the end of 2012 according to Nielsen.

"In a period of severe restriction of food expenditure, families are becoming more budget conscious and do not waste, giving preference to products with a lower value than that to which they were accustomed," said Antonio Di Ferdinando, general manager of Conad Adriatic, "In this context, the co-operative is committed to providing a concrete response to the request for convenience and protection of purchasing power, especially with the weaker segments of the population. The results obtained in a difficult year like 2012 indicate that families recognise this commitment and have confidence in our proposals." (4 April)
