Retail groups Sonae MC, Auchan Retail Portugal and Coviran have recently opened seven new stores of various formats in Portugal.
Sonae MC invested €5 million in a 1,558 square metre Continente Bom Dia hypermarket in Darque, taking the retailer's total store count in the district of Viana do Castelo to seven.
The company also opened a Continente Bom Dia store in Alfornelos - its 54th store in the district of Lisbon. It has a sales area of around 1,275 square metres.
Both stores offer a wide assortment of fresh and local products, with a bakery, butchery, fish counter and fruit and vegetable deparment.
Continued Investment
Elsewhere, Auchan Retail Portugal opened its fourth My Auchan store in Lisbon, located in the Campolide district, and plans to open two more by the end of December in Queluz e Graça.
As a result of these openings, the French retailer will end the year with six neighbourhood stores in Portugal, for an investment estimated at €6 million.
The Campolide store has a sales area of 290 square metres and features a range of fresh and organic produce. One-hour home delivery is also available at this location, using environmentally-friendly electric scooters.
Meanwhile, Spanish food cooperative Coviran opened four new supermarkets – one in Leiria, one on the Island of São Miguel in the Azores, and two in Setúbal – adding 1,145 square metres of retail space.
Coviran is now present in 18 districts in Portugal, as well as in Madeira and the Azores.
