Portuguese food retailer Continente has added a range of pre-packaged grocery baskets to its e-commerce service.
The pre-packaged baskets, priced at €30 and delivered within 48 hours, contain 20 essential grocery items and are available on Continente Online.
The retailer also offers a children's grocery basket for €21, comprising 14 items, and is planning to add a cleaning and hygiene products basket.
The grocery baskets are delivered within two working days to any part of mainland Portugal for a €3.99 delivery charge, but the fee is waived for customers over the age of 65 years.
Continente identified potential customers for the grocery boxes via the Continente Card and sent them a promotional code.
Customers have the option to pay by credit card, PayPal, or via MBWay, the retailer added.
Tele-Assistance Service
The supermarket and hypermarket chain is also accepting orders for these grocery boxes from senior shoppers via the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) tele-assistance service.
The tele-assistance service, used by more than 2,000 senior citizens, eliminates the need for a computer, Internet access and a customer account to purchase essential items during this period of social isolation.
Director of communication and social responsibility at Continente, Nádia Reis, explained, “This partnership between Missão Continente and CVP allows us to support these users who include elderly people in vulnerable situations, but also fully autonomous people who want to feel protected at home, in the context of social isolation.
"After placing the order, they will receive the baskets they need in the comfort of their homes in just 48 hours, without having to move."
This is the latest of a series of measures introduced by Continente to support its senior customers within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic contingency plan and the guidelines of the Directorate General of Health for the protection of older people.
