A new body representing the interests of convenience-food retailing has been founded in France which will represent outlets under the banners of Carrefour, Auchan, Système U, Groupe Casino, and others, lsa-conso.fr reports.
The organisation, the Fédération de l’épicerie et du commerce de proximité (FECP), is an amalgamation of the Syndicat de l’épicerie et de l’alimentation générale, and the Fédération du commerce de proximité.
The purpose of the FECP is to protect and advance the trading rights of about 4,000 convenience supermarkets across France – their right to increase their penetration in urban areas, as well as to open for longer in evenings, and trade on Sundays. The majority of the stores under its jurisdiction are located in urban areas.
In a press release it stated, “The recognition of our body is essential to lobby for increased power to open supermarkets, and all causes of convenience-food trading.”
