Italy’s largest consumer cooperative and food retailer, Coop Alleanza 3.0, is investing €104 million in 2016 on new store openings and the refurbishment of current stores.
Its South of Italy division will receive €14 million of the planned investment, which will go towards strengthening its presence in the Sicily, Campania and Lazio regions, and consolidating its operations in Abruzzo and Puglia.
A total of 15 new stores were opened in the first four months of 2016, while seven existing stores were restructured as part of a plan that will involve a total of 102 sales points.
The company's total number of food retail outlets has reached 430, 64 of which are hypermarkets. Sales from January to April grew 2.5 per cent, compared to the same period in 2015.
Coop Alleanza 3.0 was formed on 1 January 2016 by the merger of the three big cooperatives in the Adriatic region: Coop Adriatica, Coop Consumatori Nordest, and Coop Estense.
