Italian grocery retailer Coop Alleanza 3.0 is expanding into the pet store business by opening its first store entirely dedicated to pet products, reports Il Sole 24 Ore.
The Amici di Casa Coop specialised retail outlets will range from 300 to 500 square metres in size, with an assortment of up to 5,000 products. Grooming services will also be available, provided by experienced staff.
The first three stores are located in Bologna, Ravenna and Ferrara, to be followed by three more in Modena, Reggio Emilia and Venice by the end of 2017.
Strategic Plan
The new store concept is part of the retailer’s 2017-2019 strategic plan that foresees the opening of 60 Amici di Casa Coop outlets over the next three years.
The president of Coop Alleanza 3.0, Adriano Turrini, said that the first 34 locations have already been earmarked, and the company plans to invest €15 million in the project by 2019, reports Il Sole 24 Ore.
He expects that the overall turnover from the new business will reach €70 million, or between €800,000 and €1.2 million per store.
Coop Alleanza 3.0, which was set up in January 2016 following the merger of regional cooperatives Coop Adriatica, Coop Consumatori Nordest and Coop Estense, reported sales of €4.7 billion in its first financial year.
