Italian cooperative Coop Centro Italia has completed the purchase of regional food retailer Superconti Group.
This follows a positive ruling by Italy's Antitrust Authority that the deal does not create or strengthen a dominant position on the retail market.
The Superconti Group, owned by the Conti and Antognoli families, operates 32 supermarkets in Central Italy (Perugia, Terni, Rieti, Viterbo, Rome and Macerata), as well as nine outlets selling clothing and accessories. It employs around 800 people and had a turnover of €142 million in 2013.
According to a joint press statement, the Superconti brand will be maintained due to its long tradition and in order to maximise its roots among consumers, while current employment levels will be guaranteed.
For its part, Coop Centro Italia has 69 sales points (of which 49 are supermarkets, three are hypermarkets and 17 are small stores) also located in Central Italy (in the municipalities of Arezzo, Siena, Perugia, Terni, Rieti and L’Aquila).
