Coop Denmark has initiated major organisational changes at its headquarters resulting in the loss of 173 jobs. The retailer gave employees an initial briefing on the situation on Tuesday (28 Aug) and made the cuts yesterday (29 Aug).
The move is part of Coop's strategy for 2012-2015 to slimline the operation and reign in administrative costs.
200 job cuts were made overall, with some employees taking on extra duties. "We are at the beginning of a new strategy period, and now we are changing the organization of Coop's headquarters, so as to best support the implementation of our strategy where the main themes are growth, increased competitiveness and improving cost-effectiveness," said Coop CEO Jesper Lien.
The cooperative employs about 36,000 people and last year had a turnover of DKK43.8 million. (30 Aug)
