Coop Denmark is to focus on its discount retailer, Fakta, converting a number of its SuperBrugsen stores to the banner. 16 SuperBrugsen branches are to take up the Fakta banner in the coming year. The discount banner has seen strong growth, driven by the downturn in the economy.
Coop DK's chief executive Jesper Lien, who is also acting chain director of Fakta, said, "We must note that both now and in the coming years it will be increasingly difficult to operate small supermarkets equally as profitable as discount stores."
In August last the group announed 200 job cuts as part of its strategy for 2012-2015 to slimline the operation and reign in administrative costs. (7 Jan)
