Coop Nederland has named Karin Jansen its new board chairperson, for a period of four years.
Jansen - a board member of the cooperative - has extensive experience in social enterprises and cooperative entrepreneurship, and will carry forward the philosophy of Coop, the company announced at its autumn meeting on 20 November.
Coop Nederland also added two new members - entrepreneur, Edwin Versluis, and lawyer Marike Boersen - to its board, bringing it back to its full strength.
Business Expansion
Jansen will succeed Theo van Gameren, who has retired after a stint of 22 years as the chairperson of the board.
Van Gameren was appointed as Coop’s board chairperson in 1996, when the co-operative had around fifty supermarkets.
Under his leadership, the cooperative continued to grow steadily, and it now almost 300 stores throughout the country.
Coop’s board represents the association, and comprises representatives elected by the members' council.
