Dutch retailer Coop Supermarkten has announced that from July 2017, it will only sell eggs which are guaranteed under the ‘Better Life’ animal-welfare label.
The move follows the company’s introduction of more sustainably-produced processed meats over the last number of years and its discontinuation of the sale of broiler chickens.
"Coop aims to promote sustainability on an ongoing basis and, as a supermarket organisation, we consider animal welfare a priority" noted Jacob Meijboom, senior category manager of fresh, frozen and dairy.
Dutch supermarket cooperative, Coop Supermarkten, was founded in 1891 in Zaandam, in The Netherlands. The company operates around 250 stores nationwide, under the banners of Coop, Supercoop and Coopcompact.
