Italian food retail consortium Coralis Group has introduced a new store format called Lalimentari Italiano, in a bid to protect the idea of the traditional, family-owned grocery store in the country.
The first store featuring the concept has opened in Genoa and has been branded Arcuri-Lalimentari Italiano, as a symbol of the partnership with its founder, the Arcuri Family.
Human relations are at the centre of the strategy, Coralis Group says, as the individual stores operating unde the banner will continue to be family-run.
Special attention will be given to stocking traditional local products in the stores, which will also carry a selection of Etichétto products, the Coralis private label range of foods certified as being made in Italy.
