Spanish cooperative retailer Coviran has opened four new supermarkets in Portugal during the months of July and August. The stores are located in Lisbon, Setúbal and Santarém.
All of the new stores feature a butcher's counter, bakery, and fresh fruit and vegetable section. The Setúbal store, and one of the two new Lisbon outlets, located in Restelo, also both feature an in-store cafeteria.
Company Growth
Coviran has become the third largest retailer in Portugal in terms of number of establishments, according to Nielsen, accounting for 2.15% of the sector.
The company ended 2016 with 330 supermarkets throughout the country, with a presence in 18 cities, as well as the autonomous islands Azores and Madeira.
Coviran works with 186 Portuguese suppliers and offers around 6,000 products on its shelves, of which 1,012 are private label, with 93 exclusive products for Portugal.
