Retailer Coviran has increased the range of gluten-free products it offers in Portugal, to meet the increased demand for products suitable for coeliacs.
The cooperative now offers some 144 gluten-free SKUs, as well as countless more products that are also coeliac-friendly.
Coviran is collaborating with a number of coeliac associations in Portugal to expand its available assortment and to improve the information available about said products.
Promoting Action
Elsewhere, Mercadona has partnered with the Portuguese Coeliac Association (APC) to promote actions targeted at coeliac consumers (pictured).
Mercadona’s assortment includes some 750 gluten-free SKUs, while it also offers a free customer support service for shoppers that have queries about the suitability of certain products.
In addition, the retailer offers a free customer support service to channel doubts and suggestions, transferring them directly to the specialists and manufacturers of the products.
Since 2000, Mercadona has been working with coeliac associations on product definitions targeted at gluten-intolerant consumers.
An estimated 1% to 3% of the Portuguese population is gluten-intolerant, according to estimates.
