According to the results of the latest Incoma Shopping Monitor report, Kaufland is the most popular chain on the Czech market.
The latest survey carried out by Incoma GfK confirms the dominant position of the hypermarkets (Albert, Globus, Interspar, Kaufland and Tesco) on the Czech retail market. Some 47 per cent of households declare them to be their main shopping places.
The discounters (Lidl, Penny Market) maintain second position, being preferred by 24 per cent of households. The popularity of supermarkets (Albert, Billa, Tesco) has again decreased, with a 16-per-cent preference. Smaller shops are preferred by 13 per cent of Czech households, according to the Incoma Shopping Monitor report.
German-based Kaufland is the most popular chain on the Czech market, claimed by 23 per cent of households to be their main shopping place. Penny Market remains in second position, preferred by 14 per cent of households. Third place is taken by Tesco, which gained 13 per cent of the overall preference (all formats combined). Albert takes fourth position (both formats, with 12 per cent of combined preference). The top five is then closed out by the discounter chain Lidl, preferred by 9 per cent of households).
The main reasons to choose a store as the main shopping place are – in addition to accessibility – assortment width, special offers and the overall price level of goods, according to the survey. Czech hypermarket customers emphasise the wide range of goods, discounter customers favour overall price levels, supermarkets are chosen mainly for their accessibility, and small shops are cited for an above-average frequency of helpful staff and quick checkouts, the report concludes.
