Retail consortium D.IT Distribuzione Italia has said that it was one of the fastest-growing grocery retailers in Italy in the first half of 2020, reporting 19.9% revenue growth over the six month period, compared to the same period last year.
The consortium, which includes local retailers Sigma, Sisa and Coal, reported 5% growth in June alone Gdonews reported.
The result was achieved in the context of an Italian retail market that saw independent retailers grow 12.6% in the period, with discounters seeing 11% growth and supermarkets growing by 10.8%.
Continued Growth
The retailer's positive growth trend continued into July, although at a slower pace, with D.IT reporting 1.4% growth in week 28 (July 12-18), against a 3.5% decline across other distribution channels, except drugstores (+6.8%).
The retailer’s mainstream private label lines saw 37% growth in the period January-May 2020, it added, with highlights including the premium line Gusto&Passione (+40%) and organic line Verde Mio (+78%).
Double digit growth was seen across the Primo entry level offer (+26%), while Equilibrio & Piacere (+7%) was slightly below average, due to the lower appeal of 'health & wellness' products during the COVID-19 emergency period.
