Belgian retailer Delhaize has extended its range of vegetarian products in order to meet the increasing consumer demand.
Indeed, the retailer says that it has seen a 10% increase in category sales in 2017, and so has launched eleven new products since the beginning of the year.
The success of vegetarian products is driven by both vegetarians and 'flexitarians', who avoid the consumption of meat or fish several times a week. According to Delhaize, these groups now represent around 20% of the Belgian population.
Furthermore, a trend towards veganism is emerging, with a 20% growth in sales of 100% vegan products.
In order to meet these different requests, Delhaize is extending its offering by providing an even more varied range. There are now around 100 vegetarian products in its range, around 30 of which are 100% vegan, and 30 are organic.
The new selection includes organic falafel with lentils and dried tomatoes, as well as pre-cooked spinach and carrot sticks.
