Danish retail group Dagrofa has announced that Tomas Pietrangeli will join the firm as its new chief executive, commencing 13 August.
Pietrangeli has been at dairy group Arla Foods since 2014 – first as CEO of Arla Denmark, and since 2016, as head of its English business (its largest market, with a turnover of almost DKK 20 billion).
He also previously worked in Italy, Germany and Sweden for companies including Procter & Gamble, Royal Unibrew and Reckitt Benckiser.
Management Experience
"With Tomas’s appointment, we get a CEO who has the industry-specific insight and management experience needed at the forefront of a group with Dagrofa's size and complexity," commented Jesper Lok, Dagrofa's chairman.
Pietrangeli noted that Dagrofa, which operates the Meny, Spar and Let Kob banners, among others, has “great potential”, adding that he is “looking forward to working with the Dagrofa team to build on the strong positions the group has in grocery, logistics and foodservice”.
He added that the group’s strong positioning is a “good starting point for improving earnings at Dagrofa”.
Change At The Top
In February, Dagrofa announced that chief executive Per Thau was leaving the firm after five years at the helm.
"With a new capital structure, and with the shutdown of Kiwi, Dagrofa enters a new phase," Lok commented at the time. "The board has concluded that the time is right to find a new CEO of Dagrofa."
