Despar Italia, part of Spar International, has opened a new supermarket at Bari train station, which will serve 38,000 daily commuters.
In the space of 250 square metres, customers can choose from over 2,000 products, featuring a selection of Despar private label products along with other brands.
Store Focus
The focus is on fresh products from fruit and vegetables to meat and cheese, with an emphasis on convenient and practical take-away items. There is also a bakery with various types of bread.
The store also has environmentally-friendly features. The refrigeration, freezers, and air conditioning systems reduce energy consumption by 45%, while the lighting system uses LED technology with 50% less electrical consumption.
According to the chairman and CEO of Despar's concessionaire Maiora, Pippo Cannillo, the Bari Station store is a pilot that will be replicated in other locations with high footfall of travellers, such as stations, ports and airports.
