Spanish retailer DIA has announced an expansion of its joint venture with Groupe Casino with the creation of a new company, CD Supply Innovation SL.
The new company, which will be based in Madrid, will be ‘international in scope’, DIA wrote in a statement, and ‘responsible for some management of financial services and logistics, as well as payments and procurement’, primarily relating to the business’ private-label operations.
As part of the collaboration, an ‘innovation library’ will be created, seeking to ‘optimise processes with providers and improve efficiency’, thereby delivering a better final product for the consumer.
CD Supply Innovation SL will commence trading on 15 December.
Collaborative Thinking
DIA and Groupe Casino commenced their collaboration in late 2015, with the creation of ICDC Services, a company aimed at coordinating both retailers’ purchasing negotiations, with the aim of ultimately pooling up to 50% of volumes.
That company commenced trading in early 2016, and it was created in addition to the two groups’ existing purchasing partnership agreements, which remained unchanged.
