Spanish retailer DIA has said that it will sell protective surgical face masks at cost price via its website, www.dia.es.
The masks will go on sale from today, 30 April, in boxes of 50 units each, at a price of €30, or 60 cents per unit.
The masks will be available in more than 500 towns and municipalities across Spain, the retailer said.
'Unprecedented Situation'
Commenting on the initiative, Ricardo Alvarez, CEO of DIA Spain said "Spanish society is facing an unprecedented situation and we want to be by its side helping how and where we can. With this spirit, DIAContribuye2020 is born.
"All of us at DIA have looked for ways to adapt to this current situation, and therefore we decided to put on sale disposable masks at cost price to help ensure the welfare of citizens."
The delivery of the masks will be carried out in collaboration with regional governments in Andalusia, Aragon, Castile-La Mancha, Castile and Leon, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia and Madrid.
As part of the DIAContribuuye2020 programme, the company has also donated 250 000 surgical masks and 2 500 litres of sanitising gel to frontline health personnel.
