Dirk To Focus On Small Shops In Major Dutch Cities

Detailresult, the company behind Dirk and Dekamarkt supermarket chains, are no longer just looking at major outlets for new stores. The organization has announced new policies which show a concentration on investing in smaller shops in major cities.

That's according to the head of Detailresult, Aart van Haren.

"Beforehand, our preference has always been given to stores of at least 1,000 meters squared," he said.

"But in the really big cities; I mean Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Leiden as a city, we are going to settle for sites of at least 500 to 600 square meters. We want ourselves not exclude people because we see that our competitors results achieved on a small area," said van Haren.

Van Haren also announced new store openings. 2 December sees the opening of the modernized Dirk in Katwijk, the Dirk branch with the highest turnover.
