Walgreens Boots Alliance has announced the appointment of Sebastian James and president and managing director of the Boots pharmacy chain.
James, who is currently CEO of electronics retailer Dixons Carphone, will join the company in summer 2018, and begin his new role on 1 September.
"We are delighted that Sebastian will join our company at an equally exciting and challenging time for the retail environment in the UK and for the future development of Boots, a brand synonymous with pharmacy and care," said Alex Gourlay, co-chief operating officer for Walgreens Boots Alliance.
"We are sure his deep retail expertise will drive significant progress and innovation at Boots for the benefit all our stakeholders."
James succeeds Elizabeth Fagan, who has led Boots since June 2016, and will continue to work with the company as non-executive chairman.
Walgreens Boots Alliance posted sales of $30.7 billion in the first quarter of its 2018 financial year, representing growth of 7.9%.
Across its retail brands - Walgreens, Duane Reade, Boots and Alliance Healthcare - the company operates 13,200 stores in 11 countries.
